Meet Jordan

Welcome to the Joy of Reading! My name is Jordan Burns. I am passionate about both teaching and learning, and I love helping children develop confidence and joy in learning.

I am a professional Classroom Teacher with 10 years of experience in the field. I have long been fascinated by the similarities and differences in human learning and development, which led me to my studies at Gonzaga University, where I studied Psychology with an emphasis in Developmental Psychology and Teaching Methods. My university study included coursework in traditional reading methods as well as learning differences. I've also pursued extensive professional development in reading and math instruction throughout my teaching career. Over the past 4 years, I have taught typically developing students alongside students with learning differences such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Autism Spectrum, and ADHD.   My teaching style is clear, supportive, relational, and adaptive to the needs of the student.  I often get the feedback that my calm, kind, grounded demeanor and clear explanations make a huge difference for my students.

My favorite part of teaching is supporting my students to see their unique strengths and to feel confident about their learning. I truly believe that all students can learn to read, write, and be proficient mathematicians, and I delight in helping students succeed. I look forward to working with you!
